Wong is strongly influenced by American Abstract expressionist artists such as William De Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Pollock, etc. "I found these fabulous masters gave me a direction full of fresh air and a sense of danger. I was going wild with my early work…" - Patrick Wong.
"Being bought up in the Far East , my early childhood had the advantage of experiencing the Eastern philosophies and colours. A lot of my paintings started from stories I heard when I was a child; fairy tales and ghostly stories. I often thank my parents for keeping me in the Far East. I mastered a combination of East meets West. i.e. Chinese Calligraphy, Eastern colour together with the freedom of Western Expressionism. What a deadly yet sexy combination!” - Patrick Wong.
"Buddhism was introduced to me by my wife to calm my high blood pressure problem. The more I learned about the origins of Buddhism and the ways of Buddhism, the more I found it extremely fascinating and inspiring. It gave me a sense of peacefulness and stillness. Often when I was painting I used the techniques I learned from Buddhism, such as meditation: to take me into a world of emptiness where I can see nothing but the subject matter that I was painting." - Patrick Wong.
